Aims and Scope (from publisher): Cadernos Pagu is a Brazilian academic journal on gender studies and sexuality.

Cadernos Pagu was founded in 1993 and since then has contributed to the consolidation of gender studies in Brazil. The journal was created in a period when gender studies gained certain academic legitimacy in the country, and it intended to further its visibility, diffusing and stimulating knowledge production in this field.

Cadernos Pagu resulted from more than two years of intense readings, researches and debates among the members of the Center for Gender Studies Pagu, analyzing gender theories developments and stalemates. The first issue was completely written by Pagu's research members, and their articles expressed those concerns. Throughout the second and third issues, the journal redefined its editorial policies, opening to contributions from Brazilian and foreign researchers. Therefore, a group of ad-hoc reviewers (peer review), an Editorial Board and an Editorial Committee were established. From its fifth issue on the journal has guaranteed funding from other sources than UNICAMP.

Cadernos Pagu has the support of many agencies, as FAPESP (São Paulo state research agency), FAEP (Unicamp's fund for research) and above all CNPq (federal agency for academic research), which has been the most important sponsor both in terms of financing and continuity since 1996. Those types of funding were crucial to the journal's growth, improving its graphic quality, increasing the number of texts published, and also allowing it to improve its editorial norms, to expand the Editorial Board and to be included in various national and international indexes.

Cadernos Pagu is an interdisciplinary journal which aims to contribute to enlarging and consolidating the gender studies field in Brazil. It publishes the results of unpublished researches and foreign articles not yet translated into Portuguese, thus enabling knowledge diffusion in the field and critical readings of the international production. The journal includes in its content theoretical and methodological reflections, research results, essays, interviews, research documents and reviews.
