Abstract

The paper discusses the issues of inter-relating the Environment Protection Act with other special acts regulating the fire protection, i.e. the Regional Planning and Development Act, Fire Protection Act, Fire Fighting Act, and their chief purpose. In addition, described in the paper are the effects of fire on the environment, sources of hazard, fires in industrial plants, remote facilities and transport facilities, fires in fertiliser storages and storages housing plant protection chemicals, fires in open timber storages, forest fires, fires on agricultural land and those in low growing plant zones. Also discussed are the estimated effects of fires, technical documentation, use of facilities, prevention of large accidents, fire interventions and control.

It is expected that all vague aspects of the provisions in the different acts, relating to environment protection and fire protection shall be clarified and amended as needed. The introduction of the emergency telephone number 112 is likely to eliminate at least a part of the shortcomings.
