Abstract

Health care professionals employed in diverse settings are in an ideal situation to identify those bereaved spouses who may be at higher risk for developing physical and/or emotional problems related to the bereavement process. This study examined demographic variables and their relationship to behaviors associated with grief. Significant findings revealed that age, sex, socioeconomic status, and quality of relationship to the deceased are related to specific high-risk bereavement behaviors. The results of this study can be used to screen high-risk spouses.
