Abstract

Youth violence is a phenomenon that plagues our way of life both locally and internationally, leading to costly consequences. Youth violence ranks among the top five causes of death among youth. Risk assessment tools that measure the future risk of violence have been developed to identify at-risk youth, allowing risk-reduction measures to be implemented to reduce the risk of chronic violence. Some researchers interested in determining the level of risk in certain individuals concern themselves solely with the assessment of risk, while others attempt to determine possible solutions to the issues. However, the development and evolution of risk assessment for future violence among youth should not become stagnate, as there are both gender and ethnicity differences that must be considered when approaching risk assessment and the reduction of future risk of violence.
