Abstract

There has been significant medical, legal, media, and public interest in many countries, particularly over the last 15 yr, concerning the potential short- and long-term effects of sport-related concussion.

Various position statements and guidelines have been developed addressing the state of medical knowledge and issues including the diagnosis, management, and recovery from such injuries.

The authors of the article “Concussion Guidelines in National and International Professional and elite Sports,” have considered one such statement, the “Consensus statement on concussion in sport”1 (the “Berlin Statement”) and the implementation of its recommendations by various national and international sporting leagues, federations, and associations (“sporting organisations”).

Given the dissemination and application of such knowledge is an extremely important matter of public health and safety, the authors and the sporting associations which took part in and contributed to the review, are to be commended ...
