Abstract

In this paper, a model-based diagnostic method for the detection, localization and isolation of faults in a nonlinear complex hydraulic system that contains five tanks linear around the equilibrium point, is proposed. This kind of system is particularly found in industrial chemical processes and can be considered as a prototype in many industrial applications in industrial processes, such as chemical and petrochemical plants, oil and gas systems. The method formulated here uses the observer presented in this paper in order to design a residual generator that allows the detection of faults. The objective of using the technique of banks of observers is to generate structured residuals in order to locate faults and minimize false alarms. The unknown input observer (UIO) allows assessing these faults, which leads to their localization and detection. The present study focuses on faults arising from actuators for linearize nonlinear systems. This same method is then applied to detect and isolate faults in actuators of a hydraulic system, composed of five tanks. This system was chosen, because it is widely used in the field of diagnostics and it shows strong nonlinearities. It allows evaluating the performance of the suggested method. 2017, ICPE Electra Publishing House. All rights reserved.
