Abstract

Highlights
• Drinking contexts may influence how alcohol expectancies relate to alcohol misuse.

• Most alcohol expectancy and drinking behavior associations varied across contexts.

• Impairment expectancies had indirect effects on alcohol misuse for all contexts.

• Drinking quantity (vs. frequency) primarily mediated expectancies and alcohol misuse.
