Abstract

Errors occurred in the article by Fowler et al, titled “Childhood Firearm Injuries in the United States” published in the July 2017 issue of Pediatrics (2017;140(1): e20163486; doi: 10.1542/peds.2016-3486). The first sentence on page 2 reads: “Recent evidence from the National Survey of Children’s Exposure to Violence indicates that 4.2% of children aged 0 to 17 in the United States have witnessed a shooting in the past year.” This should have read: “An estimated 4% of children aged 0 to 17 in the United States have been in a place where they could see or hear people being shot, bombs going off, or street riots in the past year.”

Also on page 2, under Methods, paragraph 2, the manuscript reads: “International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision: W32-W43 (unintentional firearm deaths)”. This should have read: “International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision: W32-W34 (unintentional firearm deaths)”.
