Abstract

Contracting was used to decrease the truancy of a high-school-age juvenile delinquent. Attention from significant others, such as phone calls, letters, and participation in a recreational activity, was used as a reinforcer for school attendance. During treatment, truancy decreased to zero for the last four weeks of the school year. In addition, the number of persons with whom the adolescent interacted socially increased.
