Abstract

The theoretical basis of the Constructive Discipline model and the research that it has generated have been reported in the literature. This article describes, in detail, the Constructive Discipline approach. It is a model that expands on Goldiamond's constructional approach by stressing the need to clarify discipline policy, provide considerable staff support, and make allowances for individual student differences in the discipline policy. Constructive Discipline is a preventive, positive approach that can help educators address the goals of America 2000 by creating safe school environments. It has reduced violence and other antisocial behaviors and offers a disciplined environment conducive to learning.
