Abstract

Young women from rural areas in Mexico are encouraged to migrate to urban areas to help their families and are then exposed to highly vulnerable situations of sexual exploitation. Every year 10,000 women trafficked internally in Mexico to meet the demand of sex market. This process results a greater health risk in particular to their sexual health, which explored in this research. Seventy three trafficked women were interviewed in La Merced red-light area of Mexico City. Trafficked women in Mexico were basically young women, little educated and unmarried. They were working as prostitutes in hotels and living with pimp. The suffered a wide range of physical and sexual violence. Unwanted pregnancy and forced abortion were common; 65% had had at least one time abortion. All most all women had been infected by sexually transmitted diseases due to their sexual behavior and violence which they confront in their daily life.
