Abstract

In this article, the author discusses some of the photographs and videos that her students produced, and shares how their artwork serves as one way that, when given freedom and choice, children will incorporate violent play into their artmaking activities. The author argues that these images are not evidence of inherently violent, dangerous, or aggressive behaviors, but simply one way that children are making sense of the world in which they live through art. These artworks are meaningful and serve as a bridge that helps art educators to understand their students' experiences and interests.
