Abstract

After a short reminder of Boyle's law and the physiology of oxygen and nitrogen, a mathematical model will be discussed (without formulas). Its limitations are shown in relation to the calculation of partial gas pressures in different human organs. Such models are already used in closed circuit anesthesia delivery systems and valuable insights can be obtained by this way, which enable us to calculate better nitrogen decompression tables.
