Abstract

The author describes the literary work of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (1836-1895). Before the turn of the century, Krafft-Ebing coined the term 'masochism' to describe that "sexual anomaly" in which the "individual affected is controlled in his sexual feeling and thought by the idea of being completely and unconditionally subject to the will of a person of the opposite sex; of being treated by this person as a master, humiliated and abused.
