Abstract

The use of discriminant analysis to classify the relationship status of battered women using their responses to the FACES II Cohesion and Adaptability Inventory was investigated. The data came from 96 women who reported having been, or were currently in, abusive relationships. The volunteers were recruited by advertisements in newsletters and newspapers in two western states. The results suggest that certain items on the Abusive Relationship FACES II instrument might be valuable in classifying women as being either currently in or currently out of an abusive relationship. Implications for these findings are discussed.
