Abstract

An approach is presented to evaluating the structural reliability of multiple connectors in a peripheral array taking the form of demountable flanged joints under sequential fatigue loading. Having indicated a methodology for assessing the reliability over various life stages of the undepleted system, the paper examines the effect of bolt depletion on the hypothesis that one or more bolts could fail during the operational life and that failure could go undetected. This degradation assessment process when applied to sequential cumulative fatigue problems is the principal aim in the paper. However, a quite significant outcome from this work is the identification of a correlation between evaluated structural reliability and the currently applied cumulative usage factor.
