Abstract

This paper reviews developments in the Army's approach to the specification and achievement of equipment reliability. It outlines the findings of a wide-ranging review of the state of reliability achievement on past equipment projects and argues the case for increased emphasis to be devoted to the management control of reliability during development. The paper indicates the minimum essential requirements for reliability progress reporting and for the contents of a reliability plan.
