Abstract |
Groups of children at three different developmental levels were each given a brief presentation by their classroom teacher regarding the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, one day after the explosion. The standardized presentation included the following information: where the shuttle was launched, some background information on the crew, the special significance of Mrs. McAuliffe's participation, and what was currently known about the explosion. Twenty minutes was then alloted for comments and questions. Conversations and comments were recorded and subsequently analyzed according to the cognitive developmental levels of the learner, employing primarily a Piagetian perspective. |
