Abstract

The article reports on alleged Puerto Rican police brutality committed against University of Puerto Rico students. American Civil Liberties Union executive director Anthony Romero states that the police have mercilessly beaten students, applied torture techniques on them, and sexually harassed and groped the young women. Public Law 7, which declared a state of fiscal emergency, repeated student strikes against the government's neoliberal austerity measures, and Police Superintendent Figueroa Sancha's commitment to "zero tolerance" policing are taken up.
