Abstract

Most newspapers do not aggressively cover private crimes such as domestic violence. That decision is based on the premise that writing about what goes on behind closed doors may offend readers' sensibilities, violate victims' privacy, enrage abusers to greater violence, discourage other victims from reporting abuse and cross into an ugly world that is none of the public's business.
