Abstract

As a society, we realize that the profound issues facing us cannot be addressed by any individual or profession alone. By tracing the 25-year history of the Interprofessional Commission of Ohio at The Ohio State University, this article illustrates how collaboration among the helping professions, academics, individual citizens, and community agencies and organizations offers the best hope for meeting the challenge of improving human conditions in our increasingly complex world. This article chronicles the development of the Commission from its inception as a vision to its present form, describes the evolution of the program from a client-centered focus to one that now embraces a community-based approach, and concludes with a brief look at some challenges facing collaborative programs in the new millennium. Web site addresses are included.
