Abstract

Recent progress in mobile telecommunications technology has allowed railway telecommunications technology as well as railway control systems to go a step further. Until recently, there was a technological gap regarding high mobility environments with high transmission data rate and high interactivity. However, new emerging technologies have shortened this gap significantly. By this way, train control systems will be affected by the availability of telecommunications technology capable of offering train-to-ground broadband telecommunications in real time. This article presents a telecommunication network architecture based on mobile worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) technology that fulfills the telecommunications needs in the railway domain.
