Abstract

Adjustment to the nursing home is a difficult task for the new resident. The loss of familiar surroundings, friends, health or absence from loved ones can disorient and cause physical and behavioral manifestations during the adjustment period. Community support from religious volunteers can renew a sense of well-being, purpose, belonging and solace through a variety of appropriate spiritual and religious activities. Participation in these events support not only the residents but their families, friends, and nursing home staff.
