Abstract

Groups are being used more frequently as an intervention approach in health and social service settings for the impaired elderly. As part of an on-going activities program, groups can offer a therapeutic experience to a large number of individuals. This discussion presents reasons for using a group format for activities, essential knowledge and skills of the group leader, and six categories of groups that can be used in a variety of service settings.
