Abstract

Growing awareness of the problems of age segregation in contemporary American society has resulted in the development of many intergenerational programs which benefit both elders and children. This article supports the need for such programs and describes the ECHO design, an innovative model which places senior volunteers in summer camps. The model was tested during the summer of 1986 at three diverse test sites. The implementation process is described, as well as the impact of this program in the words of camp staff and volunteers.
