Abstract

Naomi Morrison was sentenced to 10 years in jail and an additional 10 years probation for aggravated battery, robbery, and burglary. When Morrison, an HIV-positive prostitute, attempted to rob a 91-year-old man and he resisted, she bit his arm to the bone. The man seroconverted 6 to 8 weeks following the attack. This is only the second fully documented case of HIV transmission through biting. Due to the particularly atrocious and cruel nature of the crime, the three-judge panel of the Court of Appeals, Fourth District, upheld the Palm Beach County judge's increase of Morrison's sentence beyond the usual penalty.
