Abstract

Seat belt effectiveness was determined by investigation of the scene, vehicular damage and injuries of the victims. In case histories of seventy-nine victims, data shows that 34 per cent of those killed were drivers of at-fault vehicles involved in multiple car crashes and another 31 per cent were passengers in the at-fault car. Studies also established this basic criterion for survival: A relatively intact and non-deformed passenger compartment.
