Abstract

For more than a decade now, the need for seat belts in automobiles has been shown to be an essential one. Unfortunately, not everyone has recognized this need. To obtain general public acceptance of these protective devices, late in 1958 the American Medical Association, U.S. Public Health Service, and the National Safety Council banded together what was called the Joint National Educational Seat Belt Program. This report is a brief summary of our three organizations' activities in this program.
