Abstract

The present General Services Administration standards for automotive vehicles represent a new attack on a problem of major proportion: the safety of American motorists on the highways in the United States. Although the initial standards have concentrated primarily on vehicle components that are known to represent serious problem areas, these standards unquestionably will lead to further refinements and additional specifications. The evaluation of these standards is doubly important then, since it will not only indicate the effectiveness of current standards, but will in all likelihood chart the course for future standards.
