Abstract

Globally, domestic violence is an increasing problem, not just for women, but for children and men too. For millennia, women have been subjugated through violence and abuse of many kinds and, today, we have not won the war to protect them from such crimes. It is salient to remind ourselves that one of the Millennium Development Goals (United Nations, 2002) is to promote gender equality and to empower women. From a broad perspective, this is not just about giving women equality in economic, political or educational spheres. It is also about giving them social protection so that they can lead fulfilling lives. So, I hope that you will draw from this article some considerations about how you can make positive differences for those who suffer from such violence and for those who perpetuate the violence.
