Abstract

The complexity of on-board equipment for farm tractors and other off-highway machinery has grown dramatically in recent years. However, this growth has been rather disordered in terms of its consequences for vehicle dashboard and cabin design, into which many complex human-machine interfaces have been introduced.

Improved in-vehicle warning systems that incorporate visual, auditory, or tactile signals can lower the incidence of farm equipment rollover and runover accidents. In this article, we propose a methodology to identify requirements for warning systems aimed at reducing the risk of rollover and runover accidents while moving loads (e.g., hay, grain, soil) with front loading tractors.
