Abstract

The key issue is a lack of concrete evidence that trauma center-based prevention programs make a real difference, measured in terms of a demonstrable reduction in the number of lives lost in the targeted groups. Another major issue which needs addressing is the cost-effectiveness of such programs: these events, while undoubtedly appreciated by everyone who participates in them, take a huge amount of planning and large amounts of time. No one would argue that the time is not well spent -- the question is whether or not these resources and in particular, professionals' time, is being used in the best possible way to prevent trauma. The research is simply not available to answer this question at the moment.
