Abstract

Conducted 2 prospective, longitudinal studies in which girls' childhood patterns of aggressive and/or withdrawn behavior were used to predict gynecological problems suggesting problematic sexual activity, adolescent pregnancy, parenting, and home environment. Study 1 examined the medical records of 853 women, originally identified in 1977-1978 when they were in Grade 1, 4, or 7 (as part of a longitudinal study), as highly aggressive, withdrawn, aggressive and withdrawn, or nondeviant. Study 2 examined the home environment and parenting behavior of 38 women from the original sample who became mothers during their teens or early twenties.

RESULTS confirm that girls' atypical social behavior predicts early reproduction and parenting difficulties, passing the risk for psychosocial problems on to another generation. (French abstract) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
