Abstract

Discusses quantitative and qualitative English-language, French-language, and German-language epidemiological research on drug addiction and suicidal behavior. Mortality, use of psychotropic drugs in the general population, hospitalizations following suicide attempts, drug addicts seen in specialized centers, social and familial-environmental factors correlated with suicidal behavior, addictive behavior and familial antecedents among suicidal adolescents and young adults, personal and familial factors correlated with addictive behavior, and drug addiction in the prison population are examined.
