Abstract

We describe and analyze the subjective effects of organizing and facilitating a 'reflexive group for male perpetrators of violence against women' in Brazil, using ethnographic observations and in-depth interviews with the three male facilitators. In order to mitigate the way their work affects their relationship with masculinity and other men, the facilitators use two conscious strategies: a politization of their relationship with masculinity and other men, and a division of care work implying that they only care about male perpetrators of violence, and not about the victimized women. We discuss the implications of these results for researchers and practitioners involved in the prevention of violence against women. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
