Abstract

Case examples are used to illustrate the human consequences of the significant levels of psychosocial morbidity in Britain today. A variety of psychotherapeutic interventions may reduce morbidity and also reduce the social costs such morbidity accounts for. The value of a psychotherapy assessment is emphasised as a way of matching resources and patients. In this connection the specialist role of the consultant psychotherapist is discussed.
