Abstract

Mental health literacy is crucial to the diagnosis, treatment and management of mental illness. Depression awareness promotion has to involve a program of disseminating information by people trained to talk to others in their local communities. The Depression Awareness Research Project (DARP) trained people to speak in their communities and had encouraging results. The amount of information about depression that was retained by people who had undergone the program was very high after a period of 3 months.
