Abstract

Discusses the 3 phases of anorexia nervosa, the bases for its development, the victim's distress, the terminal suicidal stage, and the importance of the therapist's positive countertransference in treating anorexics (especially those in advanced stages). It is maintained that anorexia nervosa represents a refusal of life rather than a suicide attempt. (English & Dutch abstracts) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
