Abstract

Presents the results of an epidemiological study on 159 psychiatric and psychosocial emergencies seen during a 9-mo period in a university hospital in Brussels, Belgium. Types of psychiatric and psychosocial emergencies and patient characteristics were determined using a battery of clinical and self-rating scales. Differences between Ss who presented for follow-up and those who did not were determined. Implications for treatment, prevention, and study of psychosocial and psychiatric emergencies are discussed.
