Abstract

Studied the following: (1) the incidence of parasuicide among young people in a representative Norwegian county; (2) the incidence of parasuicide in Norway vs other parts of Europe; and (3) the possibility of a connection between educational status and incidence of parasuicide. Human Ss: 63 male and female Norwegian adolescents and young adults (aged 16-19 yrs) (parasuicide patients). Ss were registered in medical treatment facilities between October 1988 and July 1990. Incidence was assessed by gender and student vs nonstudent status. Obtained data were compared with parasuicide rates for 15-24 yr old males and females in Helsinki (Finland), Pontoise and Bordeaux (France), Szeged (Hungary), Odense (Denmark), Stockholm and Umeå (Sweden), Wurzburg (Germany), Guipuzcoa (Spain), Padua and Emilia-Romagna (Italy), and Leiden (Netherlands).
