Abstract

Discusses the content and psychoanalytic significance of 29 brief suicide notes written by women. The ritualized notes, which are part of the material of the Suicides in Finland 1987 project, are viewed as actions that express transition (dying-dead, ritual leader-mourner, and selflessness-self-identification) and initiation.
