Abstract

Introduces this issue which is devoted to a range of socio-economic and planning themes for the region of Normandy. These include rail transport, higher education, urban management, religious observance and suicide. It is stressed that there is a case for a single "Normandy' planning region, as opposed to two regions (Upper and Lower). Commentators tend to stress the Seine valley as the sole artery of Normandy and see the regions as outer sections of the broad hinterland of Paris. New links across the Seine will assist N/S connections and will help link the two Normandies for the future. New motorway connections will reinforce these links. -H.Clout
