Abstract

Reviews epidemiological and other data on mortality and morbidity in order to ascertain health trends, then attempts to quantify their costs to the economy and to provide policy recommendations on the best ways for the Samoan health service to more effectively allocate resources. These include better organisation in the immunisation programme, more nutrition education, better mental health services (particularly for the teenage suicide problem), and better communication between rural hospitals and health centres and the national hospital. -M.Amos
