Abstract

The role of the counseling center director in a suicide prevention program is to maximize his/her staff's effectiveness, both presently and in the future. To do this, the director must carry out and/or oversee a broad range of related activities, including hiring counselors, providing staff development, building campus and community networks, making use of data, developing policies and procedures, handling the media, and providing accountability. Issues surrounding each of these activities are discussed as they relate to suicide prevention. © 1990 by The Haworth Press, Inc. All rights reserved.
