Abstract

A 73-year-old woman with symptoms of depression, mainly physical in nature, severe enough to lead her to contemplate suicide, was hospitalized for psychiatric treatment. One week of monotherapy with moclobemide resulted in a considerable improvement taking the form of a lightening of mood accompanied by a shift in the patient's interest away from her own bodily functions towards a more satisfactory active participation in life. Similarly good results obtained in numerous cases of this type permit a favorable assessment of this well-tolerated, low side effect drug to be made.
