Abstract

This paper presents a review of the research carried out in Mexico during the last 30 years on suicide behavior, in order to suggest new strategies for its study. Most of the published papers are based on the Vital Statistics, wich refer to completed suicide throughout this country. Some studies are based on data from Mexico city and Guadalajara. Community and clinical y based studies, both on attempted and completed suicide, and on suicide ideation have been made in Mexico city. Data has been obtained from emergency units, clinical records and survey methods, and, although not frequently, different aspects of suicide behavior and suicide·ideation have been studied. Several techniques for the study of suicide have been used as wellas several settings, such as hospitals and forensic services.
