Abstract

Suicidal behaviour among children and young adolescents constitutes a serious and increasing public health problem. Currently, little is known about how these youngsters and their families respond to professional intervention, or what kinds of intervention may be most appropriate for them. We describe here an intervention package, the structure and content of which is based on insights gained from previous research studies and extensive clinical practice. Essential features of the package are that it is short-term, focused, intensive, and home-based. The Intervention Package is currently the focus of a major controlled evaluative study. © 1995 Association for Professionals in Services for Adolescents.
