Abstract

Fragility and instability in the personality of drug-addicts induced the authors of this study to investigate the quantity and the quality of the attempted suicides in heroin-addicts applying to different relevant centers (2162 adult and minor subjects). The act of carrying-out suicide seems to materialize when the used substance does not seem to be sufficient to grant the identity and the personal and social image in a position to 'protect' the subject against heavy conflicts with the outer world in the emotion area. The prominent use of a medecine instead of the drug in the attempted suicide among drug-addicts seems to point out the importance of giving particular attention to psychopharmacological treatments when therapeutic interventions are required with such a kind of subjects.
