Abstract

For many years, depressive symptoms were taken as 'normal' in this period of the life of the individual, marked by biological, psychological and social changes, which are inherently stressful. However, during the last 20 years, many researches were conducted in this area and they have suggested that depressive disorders in adolescence is a well described and separated entity with clinical patterns of this period of life. In this paper, the authors present the possible etiological factors, clinical presentation, diagnostic criterias and the differential diagnosis of the depressive disorders in adolescence, as well as the treatment approaches currently used.
