Abstract

The prevention of suicidal behaviours in adolescence relies both on the early detection of the psychiatric disorders which underlie the act and on the accessibility to treating procedures. The prevention programs focused on the adolescents have given no evidence of their efficacy. The authors have carried out a study in school environment with teachers in order to analyse their reactions facing the suicidal behaviours of the adolescents, and their interest for possible actions of prevention. This work shows that the teachers are little mobilized by these problems, their spontaneous reactions looking often inappropriate. It therefore seems difficult to lean on the teaching profession in the framework of prevention programs if these do not include an adapted information regarding suicide in adolescence.
